The parched earth breathes, eyes look up as the monsoon clouds arrive. And Monsoon Skincare starts.

The humidity in the air is higher during the monsoons and due to increased dampness, there can be excessive sweating in this season, leading to oily skin, acne, blackheads, whiteheads, eczema, rashes and other skin woes. This also means a change in your skin care routine and the use of the right skin care products for a healthy glowing skin.

Monsoon results in the oily skin becoming more oily, the dry skin dryer, the skin undergoes changes as the skin’s pH balance is disturbed. So how do you keep your skin clear and glowing this monsoon?

Follow these simple tips to glow in the rain.

1. Hydrate

It is extremely important to hydrate your body in the monsoons. Drink plenty of water and fresh juice to keep your body hydrated which eventually keeps the skin healthy and glowing.

2. Cleanse

Cleansing is very important in this season. In fact, you should wash your face 2-3 times a day in the monsoons to keep it clean and oil free. Opt for gentle and soap free cleansers. They do not deplete the essential moisture from your skin and do not make it dry and irritated. Use tissues to wipe off sweat and oil.

3. Exfoliate

Sweat and oil produced by the skin increases during monsoons and can clog your pores leading to blackheads, acne and breakouts. Exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliating also removes any dirt and debris deep within your pores. This enables your skin to soak in the moisturizer better. Exfoliate at least twice a week to get rid of bacteria and dirt. However use gentle scrubs or homemade scrubs.

4. Tone

A toner comes in a water or Gel-based liquid that may be infused with skin-soothing ingredients like eucalyptus, peppermint or aloe. You can often find different formulas made especially for your skin type. A toner gently refreshes your skin without stripping it of its natural moisture. This means toner won’t irritate sensitive skin or cause excessive dryness. Toner also prepares the skin to absorb moisturizer better. You can also use rose water or rice water as a homemade natural toner to clear out the clogged pores.

5. Moisturize

Always remember to keep the skin well moisturized in the monsoon to keep it soft and healthy. Avoid using heavy moisturizers and oil-based serums. Instead opt for water-based serums and gel-based moisturizers because they will hydrate the skin and keep oil and sweating away. In case you get drenched, do not forget to reapply your moisturizer.

6. Sunscreen

This is an extremely important step to follow in the monsoons even though there is no sun. Even when it is cloudy, the sun rays can reach your skin and cause skin damage. Chose a water-resistant sunscreen so that it doesn’t get washed away in case you get drenched. Also, remember to apply the sunscreen at least 20 minutes before going out.

Even though you don’t see the sunrays, don’t skip the sunscreen. The UV rays are very much present in the monsoons too and not using a sunscreen is only going to damage your skin eventually. It’s better to use waterproof sunscreen in the monsoons.
